| It's that time of year again.... |
Yep, it's that time of year again...We head to Las Vegas to investigate the high tech and best
technologies to come from some of the brightest minds in automotive technology today. From gas
guzzling pro modified specialty cars and trucks, ( my fav ) to the cutting edge of fuel/electric technology, SEMA delivers.
We attend every year, save the last one or two because you, our viewers tell us what you want to see....This year seems to
be the future of electrics. One question came up consistantly, fuel economy and speed. You can't have both......ahh
but you can....and we'll bring you the stories to prove it. Speciality modified vehicles make up
a good portion of SEMA, and we will bring you an entire episode about the speciality cars here at SEMA. It's still early,
so any ideas or comments about what you would like to see....shoot me an email and lets find out for you!!

A sad sad story to report from Las Vegas
We lost a great man today.....doing what he loved
the most..
Four days before he died, Dan Wheldon sat next to me on a couch reflecting
on a year in which he started out unemployed, won the Indianapolis 500, then
went back to the unemployment line to look for a job. I expected a bittersweet
tone. Instead I got classic Dan Wheldon, ever the grounded optimist. “It’s been incredibly enjoyable,” he said with complete sincerity. “My
wife gave birth to our second son, Oliver, and I was able to enjoy spending
time with them because I didn’t have a ride.” Wheldon died
Sunday in a violent 15-car wreck at the IndyCar season finale
at Las Vegas Motor
Speedway. The native of Great Britain was 33 years old. He’ll be remembered
as much for his engaging personality off the track as his dominating skills
on it. Wheldon was airlifted to a local hospital and IndyCar officials
halted the
race for more than two hours. When word spread that Wheldon had died,
drivers decided not to race, returning to their cars only for a five-lap tribute. Wheldon got a ride in the Indy 500 only because friend
and team owner
Bryan Herta was able to put together a competitive deal. Still,
no one gave Wheldon a shot to win it until he actually did. The next day, he
was unemployed again. But
not bitter.
He used the time off as an opportunity to promote the sport
that wouldn’t
give him a full-time job. When he won the Indy 500 back
in 2005, he hit up David Letterman, did a few other promotional events, then
went back to racing the next weekend. After this year’s win, with no job,
he made appearance after appearance after appearance. He worked television broadcasts of IndyCar events, became an ambassador for Indianapolis Motor Speedway
and served as the official test driver for the new race car the series will
unveil next season. He was happy, content, smiling like he was in
love. courtesy-Yahoo sports

2011 SEMA Show promises to be groundbreaking
The upcoming SEMA extravaganza held every year in fabulous Las Vegas is stacking up to be one for the record
books. With the economy struggling, the best way for 'gearheads' as well as the motorsports industry
and survive, is to stay focused and concentrate on making cars more effective and more streamlined. Better fuel economy
of course, but making the styling as well as fuel economy a top priority. Cars and trucks these days are
becoming much more fuel efficient, but think about how the designers are dealing with such details as......electric
cars don't make any noise....how do you design so the hearing impaired know when there is a car in the crosswalk?
Or how new technology is making cars more economical, but what if you want speed? Hot Rides TV will address these
new technologies, as well as many others at the upcoming 2011 SEMA show.

Ford Re-Introduces the 5.0L V8 Mustang for 2011
Ford plans to re-introduce
its 5.0L V8 in the 2011 Mustang GT, offering an update to the iconic engine with increased horsepower and fuel economy.
Using enhanced variable camshaft timing, four-valve per cylinder heads
and an all-aluminum block, the new 5.0 will make 412 hp and 390 lb.-ft. of torque. Mated to an automatic six-speed transmission,
the engine is expected to help the 2011 Mustang deliver 25 highway miles per gallon and 17 in the city.
Knowing
that customers would use the GT for club-racing, autocross and other grassroots motorsports, Ford V8 Engine Programs Manager
Mike Harrison says the development team also optimized the engine for factors including windage and oil drainback under high-speed
cornering conditions.
They also kept weight down, with the engine weighing 430 lbs. shipped, a weight savings
of more than 20% from the previous 5.0, according to Ford.
This is the same team also responsible for developing
the new 6.2L V8 for the Super Duty and Raptor (including the 500hp Baja 1000 Raptor R race engine) and a 7.0L, 800hp V8 for
the Don Bowles Mustang drag-racing car. Other upgrades to the 2011 Mustang include an available Brembo 14-inch brake
package, an enhanced rear lower control arm and a stiffened rear sway bar. For businesses that make and sell parts
for the Mustang and the previous generations of 5.0, Ford's timing is perfect. "With a little more than 300 hp
and compared to the likes of the SRT-8 and Camaro, the Mustang has lost its edge," says Anthony Coles, managing director
of marketing/product development for Mustangs Unlimited, a brick-and-mortar and online retailer in Georgia and Connecticut. "Ford really needed to do something more than a
styling facelift to slug it out with GM and Chrysler." Coles says his shop's 5.0 parts sales have leveled off
over the past couple of years, but still account for the majority of '74–present parts sales. "The new 5.0
'Coyote' program will breathe some much-needed excitement into the latest Mustang offering and, ultimately, will result in
renewed excitement for aftermarket parts sales," Coles adds. "My 2007 GT is looking more and more ready to be traded
in come next year."

Hot Rides TV is attending the Barrett Jackson Palm Beach event.

Barrett-Jackson’s reputation for success in the collector car auctions and
services industry became the true benchmark in the industry and nothing less than stellar. But, resting on a plateau was not
in its business plan. Barrett-Jackson took the first step to vertical progress in September 2007 by joining forces with Endeavour
Capital, a West Coast based private equity investment firm. They took a minority, yet noteworthy, stake in company after exhaustive
due diligence. Because of this new partnership with Endeavor Capital, Barrett-Jackson’s monumental growth continued
in 2008 when it added a Las Vegas event at the Mandalay Bay Resort & Casino, giving auto enthusiasts around the globe
the one-and-only “Triple Crown” of car collecting. The inaugural Las Vegas event was a smash hit, attracting an
eclectic crop of 533 collector vehicles, over 50,000 attendants and nearly $30 million in total sales.
Throughout
the years, innovative changes have sparked growth at Barrett-Jackson and vaulted the family-run auction company onto a worldwide
stage. As a result, a hobby once dominated by dealers and the ultra-wealthy is now enjoyed by families, first-time buyers
and general enthusiasts. As the industry continues to evolve, Barrett-Jackson will remain at the forefront by offering the
world’s most desirable vehicles and an experience that appeals to everyone.
